10 BRUTAL Video Games (Where You Don't Have To Kill Anybody)

3. Iji

final fantasy 7 remake
Remar Games

Iji is a 2008 platformer developed by Daniel Remar that puts a twist on the traditional you versus the world story so commonly seen in similar titles.

The player takes the role of Iji, a 20-year-old woman who has been made into a cyborg soldier to try and combat an alien invasion. Despite these aliens killing her family, the protagonist isn't comfortable with the well-established gaming trope of seeking cold-blooded, indiscriminate revenge, opening up an alternative route for the player to seek out should they decide to.

Taking a non-violent path throughout the game opens up a host of different options in the story, that would be otherwise unattainable. Unlike some of the other entries in this list, Iji includes a variety of non-lethal weapons for the player to use to aid them in completing a non-violent run, without necessarily forcing a stealth or speech oriented playthrough.
