10 Cancelled Video Games That Could Have Been Masterpieces
3. Van Buren
Developer: Black Isle Studios Concept: 3D isometric continuation of the Fallout franchise Long before Fallout 3 was even a twinkle in Bethesda's eye, fans of the series' hopes rested solely with Black Isle Studios' Van Buren project. Utilising the in-house Jefferson Engine, Van Buren was to be a continuation of the franchise that retained the traditional isometric gameplay with more modern graphics. After Interplay Entertainment laid off the entire Black Isle Studios development team, Van Buren was cancelled. Fortunately for fans, the series wasn't dead though, thanks to the fully 3D Fallout 3 by Bethesda Softworks. Many ideas from Van Buren, including Caesar's Legion and the NCR-Brotherhood of Steel war were implemented into Fallout: New Vegas, but the classic gameplay from the first two games was all but gone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uuDKrY7eW0
