Video game developer Mark Cerny has worked on beloved titles for years.

Among his impressive list of credentials are the Crash Bandicoot games which under Naughty Dog, helped propel the orange marsupial as the PlayStation's mascot. When it came time for the arrival of the PlayStation 2, Cerny intended to produce the game Crash Bandicoot: Worlds.

The title would have been Crash's first foray into the new console and would have showcased the power of next-generation hardware. Worlds would have been an open-world platformer compared to the linear PS1 trilogy and would have incorporated puzzle-solving mechanics as Crash traveled through different planets.

A 3D rendered demo by Traveller's Tales showed the titular Bandicoot traversing through a volcanic planet that was larger than any level from the previous entries. The scope promised by the demo meant that Worlds would have been a huge leap for the video game series.

Crash Bandicoot: Worlds was cancelled due to Mark Cerny's falling out with Universal and Sony. To replace Worlds, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex was developed by Traveler's Tale and was released not only for the PlayStation 2 but for the Xbox and the Gamecube. The free-roaming element was later reused in Crash Twinsanity in 2004.
