4. Fred Durst - Fight Club

Fight Club: The Game was a disaster from the beginning. It was made in 2004, five years after the movie was released, starred only four of the original cast as the rest wanted no part of the project, and by focusing on the ‘fighting’ aspect it missed the entire point of the Fight Club story.

As a result, it was met with abysmal reviews. However, the weirdest aspect of it all is that Fred Durst, lead singer of Limp Bizkit, managed to become a hidden playable character, even though he has absolutely no connection to the film and his band only has two songs on the soundtrack.

It may not be the strangest choice made during development, as Abraham Lincoln was also a hidden character, but it didn't help its reputation.

Durst’s involvement garnered negative publicity thanks to his failing reputation in the music industry, and it helped popularize Fight Club as one of the worst fighters ever made. It's very possible that without Durst, it would have fallen into obscurity quicker than it eventually did, thus saving veteran video game company Sierra an embarassment.
