10 Character Designs That RUINED Video Games

From Bomberman to Shadow the Hedgehog and human Shelob, these character designs were big mistakes!

What makes a video game character bad? Well, all sorts of factors go into that. Maybe it’s just a matter of morality (they’re the ‘baddie’), maybe they’re a weaker party member in an RPG or a low-tier pick in a fighting game. Perhaps they’re an NPC who only offers up the most feeble sidequests. There are all kinds of criteria.

Still other characters are simply annoying. Ashley Graham’s continuous banshee-howls of “LEEEEEEON! HEEEEEELP!” In Resident Evil 4 did nothing to endear her to the player, neither did Navi’s repeated exhortations to “Listen!” in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. In both characters’ defence, though, they were pretty well on the money design-wise. Bad characters and characters with bad visual designs aren’t necessarily the same thing.

To illustrate this fact, we’re going to take a look at some party members, fighters and NPCs that just don’t cut the mustard in the visual sense. From The Witcher's identikit NPCs to the worst rendition of Bomberman ever conceived by humankind, you’d better strap in: this is going to be one wild ride.
