If you don’t know what a boss bass is, it’s basically a giant cheep cheep. What’s a cheep cheep? Look, a boss bass a big fish. And speaking of annoying and avoidable, they don’t come any more annoyingly unavoidable.

Boss Bass are ferocious, relentless, unwavering in their eternal quest for Mario’s feet. Sure, this is Super Mario we’re talking about, so speed and agility are a must, but boss bass are unique. Usually in Mario, your power-ups, be it a fire flower, tanooki suit or a simple mushroom, will allow you to take one extra hit. The boss bass, however, does not care for your power-ups.

They will swallow you whole, whether you’re spitting fire or covered in fur. The good news is, they’re killable. Though, the general strategy for facing them is to just run, attempting to keep your toes and make sure you don’t lose the level’s progress.

In fairness to the Bass, the older Super Mario games could be pretty brutal in regards to losing your progression, so it’s not like they were a… fish out of water within the franchise.
