1. Star Ocean: Til The End Of Time - The Entire Game Universe Is Just A Video Game
You have to give Star Ocean credit, four games in and the developers know how to turn the usual JRPG gaming tropes on its head. What begins as a simple story of 'boy getting separated from his family' almost somehow immediately escalates into 'saving the world' mode somehow. After journeying across the galaxy and enduring numerous battles and conflicts, the Fayt and his group ready to enter the next dimension in the ultimate heroic sacrifice an attempt to beat the bad guys Except that it was all a computer simulation the entire time. Thats right, the entire Star Ocean franchise was revealed to be nothing but a MMORPG. Not only does this attempt at a meta twist take a dump on the events of this Star Ocean game, but it also retroactively ruins all the emotional moments, story twists and choices, the epic conflicts, and any character development from the previous 3 Star Ocean games. Needless to say, fans were absolutely livid and its no wonder that it took Square Enix another 6 years to release a new Star Ocean game, and one that is a prequel to Til The End Of Time at that.
