7. Final Fantasy X - It Was All A Dream

Final Fantasy X brings us the latest in emo protagonists that look like Japanese pop stars, the obligatory tragic backstories, scantily-clad young women, crazy hairstyles, and even crazier clothing, all wrapped up in a story where some big scary evil is threatening to destroy the world (again). After hours and hours of fighting large monsters in the world of Spira, awesome CGI cut-scenes, some backstory about Tidus and his home city of Zanarkand, and a little blitzball, it is revealed that Zanarkand was actually destroyed aeons ago. Tidus and Zanarkand are really just dreams from the remaining Zanarkand survivors called the €˜fayth€™. No amount of awesome world-building or character development can hide the fact that the developers actually had the gall to play the 'it's all a dream' card. Look, we can forgive stuff like subtly naming one of the antagonists €˜Sin€™ and spelling €˜faith€™ with a €˜y€™ instead of and €˜I€™, but after giving us previous game-changing plot twists, such as Aeris€™ death and Kefka€™s face-heel turn, the developers have shown that they could have (and should have) dug deeper into the narrative pool instead of focusing their attention on Lulu's gothic belt skirt.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
