10 Cheapest Plot Twists In Gaming History

6. God Of War 3 - Curing Kratos' Rage-Fuelled Rampage

After spending four God of War games channeling Kratos' inner Incredible Hulk and killing Greek gods with the enthusiasm of a radical atheist, we've finally reached the point where the developers have let Kratos be angry long enough and now his story is going to be wrapped up neatly. After slogging through the 5th game, Kratos€™ cycle of vengeance ultimately leads him to the McGuffin of all McGuffins, Pandora€™s Box. As Pandora€™s Box was opened, the collective breath of every gamer hitched as we were all treated with€ the power of hope. No apocalyptic event, no crazy superpower, not even some gargantuan final boss monster, just a little something that could be taken out of Animal Crossing. What€™s even worse is that instead being pissed off at such a cheap plot device, Kratos accepts it as it is, his thirst for vengeance just suddenly ends, and his fate is left ambiguous. When the main character is wearing the ashes of his murdered family and has murdered nearly every God and creature under the Greek sun, the concept of finding hope is considerably too far gone by this point. If we wanted something about the power of forgiveness or hope in our video games, we would€™ve played Dark Souls or something.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
