1. Pidgit

First appearing in Super Mario Bros. 2, Pidgit was that annoying flightless bird that soared overhead with the aid of a magic carpet. Luckily for Mario, you could dispatch these little b***trds, jacking their carpet in the process, and soar to victory, laughing at strategically placed platforms as you went.

The Similarities

Okay fair enough, these two maybe don't look related, but I just can't ignore how similar their names are; Pidgit and Pidgey. I could actually believe that 'Pidgit' was one of the rejected names that Gamefreak came up with before they settled on Pidgey. Again, this isn't to say that they intentionally ripped off Mario, just to point out that Pokemon clearly learned many of its creature creation lessons from Nintendo's favourite plumber and the insane world in which he lived.
