Ah, Mr Bond. We've been expecting you. Your appearance in GoldenEye on the N64 was the crowning glory of split-screen multiplayer games. It was also a game that re-defined the entire FPS genre and still stands up as one of the best shooters in video game history.

GoldenEye was the game that had everything you'd want from a multiplayer FPS. Well designed levels, fun game modes and a cracking arsenal of weapons. It also offered the opportunity to be far more stealthy than other FPS of the era. Although the deliciousness of having it all split-screen, meant a savvy level-aware friend could easily spot your hiding places and smoke you out.

The game changed the way we played multiplayer FPS, and what we played it on too. At the time of its release, the genre was more accustomed to the world of the PC. But GoldenEye shifted it towards console audiences, allowing successors such as Halo and Call of Duty to reign supreme in its wake.
