10 Classic PC Games That Have Been Updated For Modern Devices

7. System Shock: Enhanced Edition

Buy System Shock: Enhanced Edition The sequel may get all the attention, as may its spiritual successors (a little series called Bioshock), but let's show a bit of love for the first game to ever immerse players in a terrifying, post-catastrophic scenario. In this seminal space horror, you're a notorious hacker who wakes up from a coma after an operation to find that everyone on the space station has been killed, and that it's been taken over by a nefarious AI called SHODAN (essentially GLaDOS' mean, creepy aunt). You try to find your way off the station, while combating mutants and reprogrammed security systems, and will regularly stumble upon disturbing scenes of Shining-style carnage like the one pictured above. While the atmosphere continues to shock and delight, the gameplay felt painfully dated until the Enhanced Edition came along. The updated version of the game adds mouse-look support, higher resolutions, bug fixes, and customisable controls, bringing this hugely important gaming milestone back to life in all its mutated glory.
