10 Classic Video Games (That Have Aged Horribly)
8. Grand Theft Auto III
It would be difficult to justify a list of the most important games of all time if it didn't include Grand Theft Auto III. Rockstar's open world masterpiece wasn't the first of its kind - or obviously even the first of its franchise - but nonetheless completely blew open the world of game design.
It wouldn't be long, though, before developers everywhere would take the foundation the game laid and build much greater works upon it. Even the direct follow-up GTA: Vice City released just one year later would so substantially improve on the offerings of GTA: III that the previous game would essentially be rendered obsolete.
But Grand Theft Auto III's rapid aging isn't entirely a result of how much its successors would offer. Even at the time of its release many noted just how poorly GTA: III actually played, but wrote-off those shortcomings due to how notable the game itself was. Attempting to go back to this game's style of mission design, combat and general structure makes trying to appreciate its modern merits too tall of a task.
At the end of they day, Grand Theft Auto III is just not that much fun to actually play.
