10 Classic Video Games (That Have Aged Horribly)
6. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Poor Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Unlike some other games on this list, it is not hard to appreciate why Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was such a big deal when it was released in 1999. Skateboarding culture was reaching heights that few could have predicted and the game's buttery smooth control scheme placed it leagues ahead of any other similar title that had come before. It was the right game at the right time.
That said, you can't overstate just how much Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 improved the franchise. The introduction of the "manual" trick allowed for players to string together combos that could not be dreamed of before. There were other minor tweaks and improvements from the first game, but that one gameplay overhaul so drastically opened up the gameplay possibilities that going back to what came before was not an option.
Your memories of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater being the greatest thing ever are not without justification, but be sure to leave them as just memories.
