10 Confusing Video Game Levels Everyone Got Lost In

8. Myst Island - Myst

Myst, being one of the seminal pieces of the point-and-click genre, is naturally a master at getting the player lost.

The entire island is one giant maze of puzzles and treasure hunting. No map to speak of either, so have fun perusing this glorified PowerPoint presentation to find where to go next.

What puts it so low on the list is that, technically, every direction is the "correct" one. The game is open-ended, with every puzzle leading the player onto the others so that, inevitably, you will find where you're going. It's just a matter of finding the puzzle that makes your brain hurt the least and then going from there.

Building an entire game around the concept of getting lost and going exploring is a perfectly valid idea - it's why the original Legend of Zelda isn't on here. But Myst's primitive mechanics and UI make it incredibly difficult to solve puzzles, because a lot of important objects blend into the background, making puzzles more difficult than they were already.
