10 Most Controversial Gaming Moments Of 2014 (So Far)

10. Same Sex Relationships 'Removed' From Tomodachi Life

Tomodachi Tomodachi Life is a pretty unusual title, even by Nintendo's standards. Taking place on an island full of 'Mii' avatars, the game is a life simulation title that primarily focuses on the relationships between the characters. It's possible to become rivals, best friends, or even get married to the various Miis. However, it is not possible to form a relationship with a Mii of the same gender. Now, this usually wouldn't be a particularly controversial issue, but reports emerged that the Japanese version of Tomodachi Life let players form same-sex relationships through a bug. The reports continued to state that Nintendo had gone on to patch this 'feature' out of the game entirely. Nintendo made a statement shortly after to clarify the incident, where it emerged that it was just a case of the story being lost in translation. It turned out Japanese players were just creating male Mii characters, but making them appear female, and the patch was totally unrelated. Regardless, there is an ongoing 'Miiquality' campaign for Nintendo to implement same-sex relationships.
