9. Dungeon Keeper Features The Worst Aspects Of Free-To-Play
The Dungeon Keeper franchise is one of the most beloved strategy series of all time. The games would see you building up a lair that defends against marauding heroes that attempt to steal treasure and kill your various monster minions. Dungeon Keeper II was the last 'real' entry in the series, released in 1999. Therefore, fans were excited to learn that a new Dungeon Keeper title would be released fifteen years later. Unfortunately, the excitement quickly turned to anger, after it emerged that the game would be named Dungeon Keeper Mobile, and would be free-to-play. Player fears were confirmed, after Dungeon Keeper Mobile launched with some of the worst examples of obnoxious free-to-play monetisation ever. Many reviewers found the game to be barely playable without investing significant amounts of money, and the game used cheap tricks to convince players to give the game a 5-star rating. Many saw Dungeon Keeper Mobile as an insult to the cult series, and the final straw for exploitative free-to-play games in general.
