10 Controversial Ways Gamers Are Ruining Gaming

8. Getting Ridiculously Annoyed By Anyone Else's Opinion

I've always found it ironic how certain gamers get aggrieved by 'sensitivity' in respect to matters of social justice, yet get so worked up when confronted with an opposing opinion to their own. There is no such thing as an authoritative opinion, since passing judgement has always been a matter of individual subjectivity. There is no universal opinion regarding any one matter because (at least in respect to gaming) there is no one abject truth - people are able to agree and disagree on matters safely assured that their viewpoint is just as valid as anyone else's. So why then, are so many gamers insistent that people prefix their statements with "in your opinion," before engaging in any civil discussion whatsoever? No one's position can be that fragile, but it seems to be a recurring trend in online discussion. However, its severity is completely and utterly dwarfed by those within the community who feel the need to resort to petty insults and trash-talking in a vein attempt to delegitimise someone's argument. Honestly, if you can't handle discussion about video games, there's no point entering into one.
