10 Controversies That Have ALREADY Hurt Pokemon Sword & Shield

3. No Megas, Probably Ever

As well as Regionals going the journey and Dynamaxes feeling like downgraded (although more accessible) Megas, it appears that Megas themselves have been discontinued, despite their massive popularity and many Pokémon feeling like they’d benefit from one.

Megas, unlike Dynamaxing, were only available to certain Pokémon, giving them a sharp new design, a massive stat boost and occasionally a new typing. The new design meant Pokémon who had perhaps grown a little stale got a signal boost, while hugely popular ‘mons like Charizard got even better.

They played a significant part in Let’s Go, with Professor Oak gifting you the Mega Stones for Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard, while several of the strongest trainers utilised Megas in their team too.

It was disappointing enough when Sun & Moon didn’t introduce any new Megas, but Galar will not let you access them at all. Producer Junichi Masuda confirmed as much at E3, while also nixing Z Moves coming back, though that feels a little less impactful than losing Megas.

They could still bring them back for Gen IX in the future, and any remakes of older games, but for now it appears Megas have been put on ice.
