The headline alone should highlight how bizarre this enemy concept was, and why people had a hard time believing it was true. It's all true, though; a really creepy enemy alien dubbed Mr Friendly was included in an early build of Half-Life 2, and one of his main attacks was to drag the player towards him and...well, bad things would happen from there.

Mr Friendly was meant to be a scavenger that fed on the dead bodies dotted around the game, and would whip and projectile vomit at the player when provoked. The idea this thing would essentially rape the player to death was indeed a disturbing idea, which was Gabe Newell€™s intention.

He figured young teenage boys would be massively unsettled by the idea, and it would make Mr Friendly one of the most memorable enemies in the series. He was eventually cut €“alongside a whole wave of ideas €“from the final product; probably because the idea was just a little too unsettling.
