10 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy Metal Gear Solid
8. The Codec Makes No Sense
Futuristic technology is key to Metal Gear Solid's narrative - it's a pretty regular feature. Even radios have a futuristic new tweak in Kojima's world, in the form of the Codec; an in-ear radio that makes almost absolutely no sense when looked at closely. For example, it's unclear how exactly the Codec works. Presumably, the key purpose of the device is keep communications open between two people while ensuring the mission isn't compromised. In that sense, for gameplay purposes, surely Snake/Raiden don't actually talk out loud when using the Codec. This is aided by the fact that some characters will go into Codec conversations with the player even if they are directly next to each other, presumably to keep information private. Like texting somebody in the same room, it's a bit strange. However, there are clear instances of characters speaking out loud while in a Codec call, throwing the whole stealth element out of the window. Granted, they aren't loudly shouting and jumping about in earshot of enemies but it still raises key questions about the functionality of the Codec. Of course, none of this really matters in a gameplay sense, but if you want to look into Kojima's brilliant world a bit more, things like this may knock you a bit.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
