10 Criminally Underrated Video Game Sequels Nobody Played

5. Resident Evil - Code: Veronica

When talking about the greats of the Resident Evil series, the conversation almost always seems to revolve around the perfect sequel that was Resident Evil 2 or the revolutionary Resident Evil 4. Whatever love is left tends to go to the GameCube remake of Resident Evil or Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. What's lost in the discussion is most certainly Resident Evil - Code: Veronica. The game didn't have a gimmick like Resident Evil 3's Nemesis enemy or the overhaul of Resident Evil 4, but it is the game that absolutely perfected the original Resident Evil formula. The story is epic, the puzzles are clever and the scares are some of the greatest the franchise has ever produced. Code Veronica is also a very important piece of the Resident Evil mythology, as it helps shed some light on the mysterious Umbrella Corporation and set in motion many of the events that would play out in later installments. Maybe if Code Veronica didn't debut on the failing Dreamcast it would have drawn more attention upon its release. Then again, it probably has something to do with that awful name.
