10 Critically Reviled Video Game Movies (That Really Aren't THAT Bad)

4. Rampage

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider 2001 Angelina Jolie
Warner Bros.

Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer Score: 51%

Critics Consensus: "Rampage isn't as fun as its source material, but the movie's sheer button-mashing abandon might satisfy audiences in the mood for a brainless blockbuster."

'Brainless blockbuster' is a little harsh for Rampage considering its conviction in making the impossible seem a little more possible, but the above consensus does at least see some of the film's appeal - so that's something, right?

Now, don't get this writer wrong, the story does drag at times and the overall experience obviously isn't as immersively enjoyable as those classic video games, but the film is an undeniably enjoyable monster movie that does add some depth to the story. Furthermore, the visual effects are nothing short of incredible while The Rock is, as always, a believable lead - and his character's bond with George remains a highly engaging emotional core that carries the film.

A perfect adaptation of the game series? No, but it's highly unlikely that it will ever exist, so if Rampage is the closest we get to it, then that's okay with this writer.
