10 Crucial Questions We Have For 2017's Remaining Video Games
10. Is Star Wars Battlefront II's Campaign As Shallow As Hands-On Reports Suggest?
If the various hands-on reports out there are to be believed, it's highly unlikely that Battlefront II's campaign will be anything more than a series of cutscenes bolted onto mission goals that feel like what went before. The Verge notes,
"The on-screen prompts that guided me from objective to objective during the massive battle were more well-laid out than what I’d grown used to in the first game. But the essential style of gameplay was still the same; it was basically just a tweaked version of the multiplayer game, with thin bookends of narrative."
To be honest, this fits. The first Battlefront only released in 2015, with DICE supporting the game through patches, DLC and additional content for many months post-release. They haven't had anywhere near enough time to build scripted sequences with unique gameplay mechanics - instead falling back on that "Battlefront feel" with bookended narrative scenes.
Maybe that'll be enough for fans as we know timeline-wise, this takes place between Ep VI and VII, but whether it'll be enjoyable outside of just chasing the next cutscene? That remains to be seen.
