10 Crucial Things The Nintendo Switch Must Do In Year One
7. Offer Compelling Bundles
There’s little doubt that the greatest pack-in title in gaming history must be Wii Sports. Never has software demonstrated hardware capability so easily to a mass audience and been gobbled up so eagerly. (Lest we forget that in Japan and Korea it wasn’t a pack-in, and still sold millions.)
What the Nintendo Switch could do is offer a pack-in game right from the word go.
A smart move sales-wise would be to bundle the Switch with the new Mario game seen in the announcement video. But that may not be ready for March 2017. An even smarter move would be to offer what might be Mario Kart 8: Switch Edition as a pack-in. It would capture not just the general public who are Mario fans, not just the 36.75 million blend of gamers and families who loved Mario Kart Wii, but also the long-term Nintendo fans, all of whom would buy the game regardless.
Nobody yet knows whether the Joy-Cons (the detachable mini-controllers) have gyros or accelerometers in them, but let’s say they do: Why not pack in Wii Sports HD with its perfect local multiplayer?
Imagine the ease of conversations on the bus: “Hey – remember that game from ten years ago, Wii Sports?" "Want a quick game?” "WHY YES, YES I DO!" bleats the anonymous stranger.
Probably.
