10 Crucial Things The Nintendo Switch Must Do In Year One
2. Get Games Out Regularly And Rapidly
Current President of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime has already stated in various interviews that Nintendo knows it has to get games out on the market more regularly to ensure the Nintendo Switch succeeds.
He has made it clear that Nintendo: “[…] have to do a better job from a software planning standpoint to have that continuous beat of great new games that are motivating more and more people to pick up the hardware, and more and more people to pick up the software.”
The unification of home console and portable should solve this problem and prevent strange overlaps like Super Mario 3D Land and World, or the infrequent release schedule that brought us Star Fox Zero in 2016... with little else.
In the same interview, Fils-Aime notes that Nintendo has IP strengths that competitor companies don’t. It doesn’t really matter that detractors moan about how Nintendo brings out the 'same old Mario' or 'same old Zelda'. What matters, is that there are new experiences for all fans of Nintendo – no matter how longstanding their support has been. So let’s see Metroid on Switch, F-Zero – come on! Animal Crossing before the end of the second year - all of these need to be on the table.
With the hardware promising local multiplayer, four player ad-hoc multiplayer by stringing two Switches together and the potential for online playability on the move, Nintendo must get games out that categorise on all of those types of players as fast as possible.
Could online-based co-op campaigns become a staple for the next Mario? We can but dream.
