The Soulsborne series has become synonymous for the lengthy list of mean gotcha moments that they've played on us over the years. It just wouldn’t be a FromSoftware game at this point without the developers planting harsh practical jokes in them.

Whereas Elden Ring contains trap chests that teleports us to tougher areas and Bloodborne has the hilarious log trap, there’s no trick as quintessentially Soulsborne as the mimics from Dark Souls.

In the oppressive world of Lordran where every enemy would fit right at home in our nightmares, every resource we can get our hands on is vital. Every treasure chest we come across is therefore a sign that we’ve found something useful, whether it be a stronger weapon or piece of armour, which could help us get past the next boss.

But not all treasure chests are safe. Some, it turns out, are gangly limbed, toothy terrors known as mimics that will take a big bite out of greedy adventurers who don’t pay close attention to which way the chain is facing.

Moreover, these enemies don't appear until around halfway through the game in Sen's Fortress, meaning that you won't be expecting this nasty surprise when it finally arrives.
