10 Cruel Tricks Video Games Played On RPG Players
4. Troll 9S During The Tutorial & Pay For It Later - Nier: Automata
Nier: Automata is a game with more devilish tricks up its sleeve than most games even have sleeves, and while you can argue that its unexpectedly challenging tutorial is itself a pretty cruel trick, director Yoko Taro actually went one step further.
During the tutorial, you'll need to carry out a number of diagnostic actions as directed by your scanner android pal 9S - namely adjusting the in-game settings - but in the interest of fun you might be tempted to deliberately disobey 9S' orders.
Doing so will eventually irritate 9S, and while that might seem to be the end of the matter, mischievous players will get their comeuppance when control switches to 9S on a second playthrough.
The game will remember your tomfoolery, and so while now playing as 9S, you'll be forced to sit through whatever nonsense you inflicted upon 9S the last time.
For instance, if you went and made a sandwich while leaving the tutorial idle the first time around, you then had to sit through all that dead air before being able to continue this time. Genius. Infuriating, but genius.
