10 Darkest Quests In Fallout History

1. Tranquility Lane (Fallout 3)

One of Fallout 3's biggest left-turns came right near the end of its main story. On your way to find the G.E.C.K (one of Fallout's many long-standing McGuffins) you're forced into a simulation that transports you to a seemingly idyllic 1950's suburban neighbourhood and into the body of a young child. However, in order to free your father who's also trapped in the simulation you're told to perform a series of increasingly hostile acts to the neighbours living in the village. While this starts out as teasing others kids in the neighbourhood and breaking up marriages, it quickly devolves into cold-blooded killings - all while you're in the body of a child, remember. In a series of bloodthirsty tasks you're told to don a terrifying mask to hide your identity and bash in the brains of most of the innocent occupants of the estate. Although the acts themselves are rather dark for the game, it's the aesthetics that really sell the twisted nature of the quest itself. This isn't post-apocalyptic DC you're in any more, it's an even creepier, warped black-and-white version of America before the nuclear war. Easily one of the most memorable parts from Bethesda's first attempt at a Fallout game, Tranquility Lane remains one of the most talked about quests the series has ever seen.
