1. Using Action Replay or GameShark - Every RPG on the PS2
OK so don't even pretend you don't know this one. If you owned a PS2 the chances were you'd heard of Action Replay or GameShark, both of which are cheating devices for the console and the most dastardly way you can cheat your way to RPG and indeed any games glory. Before the advent of trophies, the PS2 was just a console about completing. You completed a game and you either got upgraded items in the game or extra content for that game. There were no outside rewards usually, I know that might come as a shock to current gen gamers whose first console was an Xbox 360 or PS3 but that is how it was back then. My first experience with Action Replay was a sample cheat disc my cousin gave me. By putting the disc in it gave me options for a few games I had at the time like GTA: Vice City which enabled things like Flying Cars or See through cars etc. After using the disc it played an advert for Action Replay. When I bought the disc itself a while back I realized how much of a bastard I really was. Cheats like infinite currency, an infinite amount of mana or magic, health cheats, maxing out stats or just having 100% completion were all available at the press of a button. All of this was updateable code lists and forever changing ways in which you can cheat your way to glory. Of course this was available to other game systems such as the GameBoy and it goes even further back with GameGenie on consoles like the NES. For its huge library of games and the plethora of ways to cheat at them Action Replay and GameShark get this spot on the list. Did I miss one? Or perhaps there was one you wanted to see on the list?
