10 Dated Video Game Clichés That Need To Die

7. "I have to watch this cutscene, even though I don't want to? Why don't I kill myself instead?"

Cutscenes are both loved and loathed by the modern gamer. Some gamers appreciate the way that cutscenes drive the story and help immerse you even further into the world of the video game. Others think that cutscenes should be wiped off the face of the earth because, hey, I didn't pay to watch a movie, and that every game should be like Half-Life 2.

Both sides have a point. Something that has absolutely no point? Unskippable cutscenes. The fact that a product you've bought with your hard-earned cash (for the purposes of playing it) is refusing to allow you to skip something you don't want to see makes zero amount of sense. Even a DVD will allow you to skip and fast forward and pause on the nude scenes (apparently), and that was designed to be watched. Why won't a game just let you play? We're well-aware that developers have put a ton of effort into making cutscenes super-nice and that they're trying to tell you a story and show off their fancy new graphics, but at the end of the day, it's my game now, so let me do what I want with it. Please?
