10 Dead Video Game Characters You Can Actually Save
1. December - Prey
At the beginning of Arkane's unusual, though excellent, reboot of the Prey series, protagonist Morgan Yu finds themselves in an amnesia loop.
A test subject of the game's skill-granting Neuromods, Morgan is subject to repeated memory wipes and has been stuck reliving the same day (as far as they know) for months, in a simulation chamber on a space station.
It's because of this Groundhog-Day-meets-Memento situation that, at some point, Morgan created a drone, December, to help them escape the station. They then naturally forgot and created another drone, January, to help destroy the station.
At the start of the game, Morgan is rescued by January and set on his course to blow everything up. Eventually, December contacts you with the original plan to escape. This upsets January, who destroys it.
However, should you decide to randomly destroy January for no real reason early on, December will survive and take January's role in guiding you through the rest of the game.
Unfortunately, because his plan is so simple - run away - he doesn't much to say about anything else. Actually, he doesn't have anything to say at all.
You CAN save December, but it's going to be a lonely adventure going forward.
