10 Deceptive Video Game Loot You Instantly Regretted Picking Up

3. Golden Idol - Spelunky

Spelunky is a rogue-like platformer where you explore treacherous caves and die at the rate of a group of lemmings hanging out by the cliffside.

There are plenty of dangers lurking in Spelunky's levels: snakes, spiders, booby traps, and angry shopkeepers. But perhaps the most dangerous thing to be wary of is your own greed.

One of the game's more iconic items are the golden idols that can be found in most levels, sitting atop an altar. To a veteran player, this description is already enough to trigger their fight or flight, but when you're just starting, these shiny little guys look like a tempting prize.

Sure, it's gold, pretty, and doesn't appear to be protected by anything. However, the moment you pick up the idol, the trigger plate beneath it will release a giant boulder that will come tumbling down towards you. If it somehow doesn't kill you on the spot, it will continue to roll through the rest of the level, wrecking havoc and making your life infinitely harder.

Well, any Indiana Jones fans should've seen this come from a mile away.
