Released in 1980, Berzerk was a highly addictive and entertaining multidirectional arcade shooter. The player takes control of a green man armed with a laser who has to shoot his way through a barrage of armed robots and find his way out of various maze-like rooms.

As groundbreaking as this game was, Berzerk went down in history for all the wrong reasons after one fateful day in 1982, when a 19 year old man named Jeff Daily dropped dead whilst playing it. This tragic incident was the first ever recorded death from playing a video game. Coroner reports suggest it was a heart attack, and he allegedly had scar tissue around his heart beforehand so Daily was already at high risk.

According to urban legend, Daily wasn't the only one to have died whilst playing Berzerk - leading to the claim that the game was cursed, and is now haunted by the ghost of Daily. Interestingly, Berzerk is free to play online so, if you're reading this and feeling brave, why not give it a go yourself? Just, you know, have The Ghostbusters ready on speed dial.
