10 Demos BETTER Than The Actual Game
7. Lost Planet 1 & 2
Making a demo better than the game it's promoting - a trick so nice, Capcom pulled it twice!
The Lost Planet series is the definition of unfulfilled potential. Despite having a premise perfectly suited for video games - fighting giant monsters on foot and in anime mech suits - The Lost Planet games consistently shot themselves in the foot with frustrating design choices.
What's particularly galling is that the demos for Lost Planet 1 & 2 showed what the series could have been.
Lost Planet 1's demo was the perfect vertical slice of gameplay, encapsulating the game's appeal by giving the player early access to a mech suit and including two gigantic bosses to slaughter. Lost Planet 2's was arguably even better - a visually spectacular showcase battle against a gargantuan behemoth that dwarfed anything in the original game.
Sadly, the full games never lived up to the promise of their demos. Lost Planet 1 suffered by keeping the mech suits away from the players for frustrating lengths of time, and the majority of Lost Planet 2's boss battles wound up being tedious slogs of attrition against colossal bullet sponges.
We'd like to say Capcom learned their lesson from all this...
