10 Most Depressing Video Game Endings Of All Time

5. L.A. Noire

Another horrifyingly depressing gaming ending and once again we see Rockstar at the helm, the scoundrels! LA Noire was essentially CSI on crack in the 1940s. You played as detective Cole Phelps who, despite his personal problems with his wife, is a likeable and hard-working character. As Phelps, you encounter the corruption of the LA Police Department first-hand, discovering that several politicians and colleagues are involved in an insurance fraud scam. After more investigating we find out that the people at the heart of the scam have kidnapped Phelps€™ love interest, Elsa. Phelps manages to rescue her but as they are escaping becomes trapped in a sewer system that is flooding due to heavy rainfall. Phelps gets swept away before he can climb to safety. Perhaps the most depressing thing about this game€™s ending is that one of the corrupt officers, Roy Earle, can be seen speaking in Phelps€™ honour at his funeral in the final scenes of the game. Way to twist the knife there Rockstar. A Silver Lining? Phelps is at least given the hero€™s funeral he deserves.
