10 DISASTROUS Attempts At Forcing Game Franchises To Continue

5. Five Night At Freddy's

After the first Five Night at Freddy's became a gargantuan success, it was obviously going to continue, not just with a sequel, but a franchise.

When FNAF2 failed to recapture the magic, the creator, Scott Cawthon should've taken a step back and re-evaluate his work. Instead, he and his development team spewed out up to five entries a year, until the oversaturated series suffered from severe diminishing returns.

Since there have been over 20 FNAF games in under a decade, it's challenging to pinpoint the exact moment the survival horror saga jumped the shark. Was it when Five Nights went into space? Or the spin-off? The spin-off of the spin-off?

Even though Five Nights has released a deluge of terrible sequels, incomplete games and glitchy DLCs, there doesn't seem to be any end in sight, since purists keep buying them (for some reason). If the people behind each game focused on quality over quantity, they could save Five Nights before their core audience gets sick of it.

But considering the movie adaptation was a box-office smash (despite being terrible), expect a whole new batch of underwhelming FNAF instalments to be cranked out in the foreseeable future.
