9. Ubisoft Montreal - Assassin's Creed: Black Flag To Watch Dogs

There's been a LOT of Assassin's Creed games over the years, but we're more than happy to have a swashbuckling pirate duel with anyone who disagrees with Assassin's Creed: Black Flag being one of - if not the best - game in the series.

With extra refinement to the early Assassin's Creed formula, a pirate ship of your own to sail wherever you want and some lovely sea shanties to entertain you, Black Flag was an absolute delight from start to finish.

The game was well received by both fans and critics alike, and still to this day is fondly remembered as a high point in the long, sprawling series.

Unfortunately for developers Ubisoft Montreal, their next game was nowhere near up to scratch.

Watch Dogs may have looked like an extremely promising new IP, but, quite honestly, it was just a bit rubbish. The hacking mechanics were cool for a bit, but the bland protagonist, stiff, uninspired storyline and equally dire open world just made the whole thing extremely meh. Massive graphical downgrades from what was originally shown in trailers were also present and although it did well on sales, Ubisoft completely rebooted the series with a more fun and whacky spin when the sequel came around.
