10 Disgusting Video Game Moments No One Felt Bad About
7. Facilitating Deaths The Sims Franchise
Since the turn of the century The Sims has been at the forefront of gaming success by cleverly catering to the needs of millions, with its focus on allowing omnipotent control of virtual life. Quite simply, weve all fantasised about having complete control and The Sims were more than happy to fill our empty void. The premise is simple: take control of a bunch of sims (virtual people) and direct their wants, needs and ambitions by manipulating both them and the world they reside in. Disgusting moment: Finding out you could manipulate the world in specific ways, resulting in the death of a sim. From enclosing a sim in a tiny room with a fireplace and watching them burn, to letting them go for a swim only to take away the pool ladder, which strangely resulted in their drowning. Why no one felt bad: Very few sims players were actually invested so much in the game that they formed emotional bonds with their virtual counterparts. Even so, it was very unlikely that a player would purposely kill a sim they actually liked. So, the inevitably approaching facilitated death was usually reserved for an unlikable or mundanely obscure sim - which pretty much no one felt bad for. Distancing themselves from an emotional attachment, players would adopt the persona of a kid with a magnifying glass, nonchalantly exterminating the "insignificant" beings before them.
