10 Disturbing Moments In Non-Horror Games
5. <span Style="font-size: 17.55px;">The Moon - </span>Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Despite its dark visual and tonal aesthetics, Majora’s Mask is not a horror game. However, that does not mean players can avoid the horrifying moon looming over them from the very beginning of their journey through the strange land of Termina.
Containing a three-day time limit before the moon crashes into the land below, the player must find a way to prevent these tragic events from occurring.
However, on a first playthrough, there is a very slight chance of accomplishing this goal. Unsuspecting players can only watch in shock as the inhabitants of this land accept and prepare for their inevitable deaths.
Failing is most definitely an option within this game, as the moon’s bulging eyes and toothy grimace draw ever closing with each passing minute. Seeing the moon completely fall for the first time, however, is a very disturbing moment, as the player realises the fate the characters have accepted.
Eventually, as Link progresses throughout the map and players gain more experience and items, the moon becomes more of an inconvenience than a source of horror. No matter where Link is within Termina though, the player can see its gradual, but undeniable descent.
