10 Disturbing Moments In Non-Horror Games
6. <span Style="font-size: 17.55px;">Manbat Jump Scare - </span>Batman: Arkham Knight
Not to be confused with Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego, Man-Bat is a literal reversal of Batman. This is also true through how whilst Batman is trying to restore order, Man-Bat will suddenly leap out and screech at the player before flying away.
This jumpscare happens upon Miagani Island, but afterwards has the potential to occur again randomly when the caped crusader is gliding from rooftop to rooftop.
The first time this occurs though, it is completely unexpected. Not only is Arkham Knight, not a horror game, but there is no lead up whatsoever to this scare.
Subsequently, this creates a lingering sense of dread, because the sense of safety and predictability has been shattered by Man-Bat’s piercing screech.
The close-up of Man-Bat’s monstrously elongated teeth and talons is equally horrifying, as is the notion that he was deliberately waiting in order to scare Batman and the player.
Man-Bat is the archetype of a horror movie monster and as such, he is an adversary the player will be unprepared to tackle. He uses these moments of confusion to swipe at Batman and display that he is indeed a physical threat to Batman and the player.
