10 DLCs That Totally Missed The Point Of The Game

9. Battlefield 4 - Ultimate Shortcut Bundle

The joy of multiplayer first-person shooters comes from mastering their unique systems. Whether it's learning how to handle each weapon in Counter-Strike's iconic arsenal, or figuring out the synergistic abilities of Overwatch's heroes, multiplayer shooters thrive on the sense of achievement that comes from hard-earned proficiency.

Or you could just chuck another $50 at the publisher and unlock enough weaponry to level a small town.

Such was the case with Battlefield 4's Ultimate Shortcut Bundle - a President Grant's worth of DLC that gave an undeniable advantage to those with the means and lack of scruples to pay for it. Those who purchased the bundle gained immediate access to the game's best weapons, giving them a massive head start over the poor saps who tried to play the game fairly.

It's true that Battlefield 4 is hardly the only FPS game that's encouraged its fanbase to "git rich" rather than "git gud". However, as the game celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, it's the one that sticks in our minds at the moment. So, Happy Anniversary, Battlefield! We'd like to say your developers learned their lesson from this, but then they made Battlefield 2042.

(Man, you'd think they'd have figured things out 2038 games later...)
