10 Dream Star Wars Games And Who Should Develop Them

1. Knights Of The Old Republic III - BioWare

With BioWare acting as one of EA’s in-house developers, it seems almost a given that a new Knights of the Old Republic will happen.

And yet, we’ve heard nothing from EA or BioWare about a single player Star Wars RPG, only promises of more content for the The Old Republic. It’s been fourteen years since the original KOTOR was released, and thirteen years since its Obsidian-developed sequel, but fan enthusiasm is still as rabid as ever.

The only real roadblock to a new standalone KOTOR game is Disney’s unwillingness to divulge whether or not The Old Republic era fits in with its post-acquisition canon. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t, since the events of the original KOTOR take place roughly 4000 years before those of the Original Trilogy of movies.

BioWare has evolved (or devolved, depending on who you ask) a great deal since 2003, going on to develop its own hits in Mass Effect and Dragon Age. It’s likely that a new KOTOR game would be a very different beast to the ones fans remember so fondly, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it shouldn’t still happen.

At its core, Star Wars is about rich, involving stories and exotic sci-fi locales. KOTOR and KOTOR II offered up some of the most shocking and memorable moments in the franchise’s history, and it would be a shame not to at least try to recreate some of that magic.
