10 Dumbest Ways We've All Died In Video Games
5. Hold X For Rockets - Halo: Combat Evolved
Unifying controls is something we all take for granted. Why is the trigger always shoot? Why is the circle/B button always crouch?
Well, for the sake of you, of course.
This doesn’t happen by accident - designers take into account the precedent set, so they can get you into the game faster.
Occasionally though, designers will attempt to switch it up a bit, and sometimes this is done pretty arbitrarily. Who in the smelly hell assigns jump to the Y button?!
So, midway through a heated match, your muscle memory will take over, and you’ll slam the reload button... only to lob a grenade straight into the wall, killing you and your entire squad. Wrong button, buddy. That’s only the reload button in literally every other game ever created, not this one!
But, it can also be used for humorous (trolling. I’m talking about trolling) purposes, such as when we’d play Halo Reach online. During a ride in the helicopter-like Falcon with other players in the passenger seats, we’d mutter “by the way, you can all hold X for rockets when you’re in the helicopter”, when juuust hovering above a deadly pit.
X, when held, is the “exit vehicle” button. We heard quite a lot of new swear words this way.
