7. Viral Marketing For Watch Dogs Ends In A Bomb Squad Being Called

Everything about Ubisoft's marketing campaign in the run up to Watch Dogs' release was a complete disaster. What started as a promising peak into the potential of next-gen consoles quickly devolved into accusations of visual downgrades and broken promises - yet Ubisoft's biggest blunder was seemingly swept under the rug because it was just so embarrassing for everyone involved.

It all started when a black safe was delivered to an office building in Australia, with the instruction for the journalist receiving it to check their voicemail. In a classic case of comic miscommunication, the journalist had no way to check his voicemail, and tried to open the safe anyway without any idea of what it was or where it came from.

After a few failed attempts to pry the box open however the safe started beeping, and taking into account the mystery of the delivery, many assumed the office had been sent an explosive device and the bomb squad was quickly brought in.

Of course, it turned out the safe merely contained a copy of Watch Dogs and a few pieces of swag, so while those in the offices were pleasantly relieved, Ubisoft was left with a nightmare of a PR job on their hands.
