10 Early Game Enemies That Came As A Nasty Surprise

1. SRM Carrier – Battletech

You would think, in a game that features 100-ton Assault Mechs like the iconic Atlas, that a 60-ton vehicle mounting short-range missiles wouldn’t be much of problem. You would be wrong.

New Battletech players quickly learn that, in general, vehicles don’t hit as hard as mechs, and that rather than waste ammo on them the easiest way to kill one is to close to melee range and stomp it. In all but the heaviest vehicles this results in a one-hit kill.

So, when first encountering SRM Carriers new players would naturally opt for the proven method. Except, fail to destroy it and the player will find themselves gaping in terrified awe as a seemingly endless barrage of missiles tears their expensive mech to pieces.

And endless is no exaggeration: the SRM Carrier mounts ten SRM6 launchers, translating to sixty missiles. At a stage of the game where players will be lucky to have even one heavy, and at the beginning of a mission featuring multiple mechs, taking just one volley is enough to force an instant retreat.

Experienced players will know that it doesn’t matter how many Atlases or King Crabs your facing, if there’s an SRM Carrier on the field, it dies first.
