10 Early Game Enemies That Came As A Nasty Surprise
3. Boars – The Flame In The Flood
To new players, The Flame In The Flood, with its soothing southern blues soundtrack and beautiful visuals will come across as fairly benign. And it is...for a little while.
Then you meet your first Boar. Players unfamiliar with how dangerous the real-life version can be will assume that they’re looking at a perfectly harmless side of bacon. Curiosity draws you, and the next thing you know the angry tusker is charging.
This will catch the payer by surprise and Scout (the protagonist) will get hit, leaving her with either a laceration or a broken bone. Worse, a broken bone slows Scout down, inevitably resulting in a second hit.
But that is only the beginning of the torture. Inexperienced players will not have been keeping a wary eye on their resources, leaving them short of materials to craft splints or bandages.
With no means to treat her, players are forced to watch the genuinely heart-wrenching spectre of Scout painfully dragging herself onto her raft, face covered in blood, her visage growing ever skeletal as players frantically paddle down river looking for components.
It’s a nasty lesson, but one you’ll definitely only need to learn once.
