You've probably not heard of designer Ken Gao's minimalist-budget masterpiece, but TTM easily put him on the map back in 2012 for those in possession of the right direction-pointing compass. With hardly any gameplay and a focus on narrative, the core story of To The Moon is one that riffs on Inception, where you play as two scientists working for a corporation that can grant peoples' dying wishes. The only way this is possible though, is by diving into someone's subconscious and rewriting their own memories so they live out their final moments believing they achieved the near-impossible. If you like the sound of that, and you're happy for gameplay to only be comprised of movement and a few easily-solved puzzles that link the aforementioned memories together, you should go pick this up right now. The only complaints you can levy at such a powerful and genuinely intelligent piece of work is that some of the off-kilter anime-esque humour than Gao has written for one of his scientists can be a little off-putting given the overall subject matter, but it doesn't get in the way of the revelatory plot-twists and endgame culminations. Plus, when there's so much detail present in the memories themselves - where certain figures will appear in shadow, like when you recall something and only certain people are distinguishable - To The Moon maximises its brilliant concept to the fullest..
