10 Emotionally-Draining Video Games You Only Finished Once
6. The Walking Dead
Season two may have dropped off a little when it came to creating a series of characters everyone all loved and didn't want to see come to a sticky end, but irrespective of which you look at on the whole, both are packed with a huge amount of choices you must react to very fast - only to live with the consequences for hours of game time afterwards. Take your pick of episodes and moments really, as throughout time with WD it's not quite as non-linear as narrative masters Telltale would have you believe. Every player had to decide whether or not to steal the food from that open car trunk, as well as pondering on whether or not to amputate Lee's arm, before reaching for the tissues when Clem was going to be left alone at the climax of season one. One of the most affecting moments for animal-lovers though, is the second season-opener that sees a thought-to-be friendly dog suddenly turn rabid after Clem shares some food with it. The speed at which the entire mood of the exchange changes is horrifying, and suddenly you're forced to brandish a knife and deal with the primal threat for the sake of saving her skin. Regardless of which choices you made and how you shaped and lived with them going forward, you'll rarely find someone who's gone through these games more than once - they're just that exhausting when it comes time to think about starting over.
