10 Epic Video Games You Probably Never Finished
3. Chrono Cross
While opinions on Chrono Cross tend to be somewhat mixed, the general consensus is that it's not quite as good as Chrono Trigger.
What brilliance the game does have, though, wasn't necessarily seen by everyone that played it. Chrono Cross takes some time to sort out its complex story and even longer to really showcase the depth that makes its combat system at higher levels more enjoyable. By a while, I mean that Chrono Cross doesn't really start to get interesting until around twenty hours in. Before that, the game devotes too much time to set-up. The payoff is pretty great, but asking players to sit through so much en route to it is a lot to ask.
It's not crazy to call Chrono Cross one of the best RPGs of all-time, but those that do tend to have been crazy enough to sit through the frustratingly slow start to get to the better parts.
